Meet Annetta

Annetta Obichi Oleru is a young lady I met when I was fundraiser at a KIPP school in Oklahoma City. She is pretty freaking amazing. She just graduated from high school at St. George's in Rhode Island on a $43,000 yearly scholarship. This fall she will continue her road to success by attending Loyola University on a full ride. I told you she is freaking amazing. The best thing about Annetta isn't the scholastic accolades; it is the way she carries herself. She has more confidence and self awareness than a lot of girls I know at my age now. She has defied so many odds against her and proves that she can and will do anything she wants to do.

I took her to dinner tonight to celebrate her graduation and Annetta told me she is looking for a summer job. So I am writing to ask you if you know of anything Annetta can do this summer. Please ask around or keep your eyes out for places that are hiring. She is open and willing to do anything full time to save money for college. I have her resume if you need it.

Thank you so much in advance!

Here is Annetta speaking several years ago at a KIPP conference I attended when she was honored with a National award. It is worth taking the time to watch.

Oh Hail

The OKC/Edmond area was hit with another hail storm this evening. Leave us alone!!! Damage so far is unknown at our home front but I am assuming a new roof will be on the list.

A Good Buy

Don't you love when people tell you a good buy? Well I found something on pinterest and I almost called bull when I saw the price. I read the reviews and did my homework and it checked out.  It is a website called They have a little of everything but I needed IPhone accessories. I needed car phone charges and extra charges for the lake. The best part about it is they come in colors! Naturally I got pink and Josh got blue. The charges are literally like $2.00!!!! I will say the negative is it takes several weeks to get your order because it is overseas but if you are in the need for some "cute" iPhone charges here is your place.

Music Monday

We need a peppy song for this holiday Monday so I hope you enjoy this toe tapper.

Memorial Day 2012

This Memorial Day weekend was a big success at the White House. We spent it at the lake playing on jet skis, eating homemade Pappou ice cream, boat rides, enjoying family, and unfortunately watching the Thunder lose. I wish these kinds of weekends came more often. They are too good for the soul.

It's A Charlotte Day

But then again when is it not? We started the morning off with a Bear-nana pancake at Jimmy's egg and she just begged me to take her to Toys R Us. So what does a good Mom do? Say yes always ;)

Road Trip

Oddly enough Charlotte will sleep anywhere but the car so when we drove to the lake last weekend I knew I had to be prepared. I brought a box full of toys that were new to her to hand when she got antsy. Target's dollar bins is great for this. This definitely came in handy about an 1.5 into the trip.

Of course, always have snacks ready at a minutes notice. Who doesn't like snacks on a road trip?

Lastly, our saving grace for all car rides is the Ipad. We have about 50 episodes of Sesame Street that Charlotte still has not gotten tired of. I found a headrest car mount on zulily that works great and it was cheap.  You can find it here,

I guess Sesame Street put ole' Harold Eugene right to sleep.

Happy trails to you and your family!!!

Toddler Muffins

As we know, the bit doesn't eat anything besides her three staple items: peanut butter sandwich's, waffles, and mac n' cheese. Since she is so high maintenance in the food department it has forced me to be creative. I found a recipe on Pinterest for toddler muffins that sneak carrots, bananas, and squash in them. The big shock a roo is Charlotte loves them. Well there is no need to get too excited... she will eat them.

The recipe is fairly easy but annoying because it calls for a lot of ingredients. When I made them today I literally threw everything in my KitchenAid mixer and it was easy and fast.

I hope this recipe can help you and your picky eater. I just ordered the cookbook "Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Food" so I will continue to share good recipes when I find them.

Toddler Muffins

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, or to taste
  • 2 large bananas, mashed
  • 1 (4.5 ounce) jar baby food squash
  • 2 carrots, grated
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup oat bran
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  1. Preheat an oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease 24 mini muffin cups or 12 standard muffin cups.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until smooth. Mix in the mashed bananas, squash, carrots, and eggs. Stir in the flour, oat bran, baking soda, pumpkin pie spice, and salt until just combined. Spoon the batter equally into the prepared muffin cups.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 15 to 20 minutes. Cool in the pans for 10 minutes before removing to cool completely on a wire rack. Store at room temperature for up to two days, or freeze.

Charlotte's "Lazy Boy"

I guess because I was MIA yesterday Charlotte needed someone to sit on that also had junk in the trunk and Harold Eugene was the next best thing. Bless his big ole' heart.

Please don't judge her un-brushed hair, missing bottoms, and macaroni stained pajama shirt.... Two words: Dad's Day

Music Monday

I had this song on repeat in my head today attempting to make myself feel better. It didn't work.

Song: "Feeling Good"

Progress: 1 out of 3 Down

The Mrs. is down in a big way at the home front. Thankfully Josh was a saint and stayed home today so I could go to the doctor and take care of Charlotte. I have a sinus infection and the worse cough I think I have ever had. I should be in tip top shape soon because I got a shot in the rear, antibiotics, and cough syrup with codeine. See you next week! :)

Sleepy Matey

It is no secret that Charlotte likes to sleep, a lot. Like a lot a lot. This morning Josh had to wake her up at 10:30a.m. because I just didn't think it was "normal" for a toddler to sleep 14.5 hours. If you asked Charlotte how she liked her first weekend on the boat she won't be able to answer you. Within seconds of the boat starting and the waves rocking Charlotte was out cold. Literally every boat ride she fell asleep within minutes. Maybe next time we will be a little more entertaining and she will join the party.

Family Portraits

For Mother's Day the boo got me family portraits and today we received the pictures. Bethany Young was our photographer and I thought she did a fabulous job! I think our baby bit looks nothing short of spectacular.

I continue to love my birchbox and get excited when I get the email alerting me it is in the mail headed this way. My Mom and I ordered the lipstick from last months box and it is by far my favorite lipstick I have ever had. It feels great, easy to apply, and the more you apply the darker the color.

This is the lipstick if you are in the market: LipSurgence natural lip tint by Tarte Cosmetics

This month's box was pretty great as well:

1. Bvlgari: Perfume sample
2. Caudalie: A French hand and nail cream that is super soft
3. Kerastase Cristalliste Lumiere Liquide: This is fragrant hair serum for your dry strands to add shine. I might be purchasing this because I love it and works good on my fuzzy hair.
4. Kiehl's Abyssine Cream: Anti-aging cream. Isn't anything from Kiehl's great?
5. Stilla Sparkle Waterproof liquid eye liner: Love love this! This is so pretty a with neutral shadow. They sent a full size eye liner so it will last a long time but when it runs out I am sure I will purchase another.

Thanks again, Birchbox!

2 out of 3 Down at the White's

My lovely princess yesterday
(And Co Co looking at me like "what the hell")
Somedays motherhood sucks and yesterday sucked. Charlotte was a boogie bear from the minute she woke up. At one point she literally took my coke can off the coffee table and threw it. Times like that you just have to laugh because there isn't much else you can do. Oddly enough the only thing that could keep Charlotte content was my fuzzy blanket from Pottery Barn. As soon as I laid it on the floor she wouldn't get off of it. She literally snuggled it for at least 30 minutes. The girl loves has good taste and loves to relax. Wonder where she got that from?

When Josh got home we both concluded something is up so back to the after hours clinic we go.  We were right, the bit now has a "viral infection". Nothing you can but wait it out. Luck it would have it today is Mother's Day Out so Charlotte can't go AND I also have the same infection. Cheers to two sick ladies at the White House!!!

Nearly every Monday my friends Stephanie, Megan, and I get together for a playdate with our girls. Thanks to Megan and Stephanie for providing twins there are five babes to the three of us so we have a pretty good group.

Music Monday

I am feeling a little feisty this Monday morning so this song fits my mood perfectly. Nobody is going to mess with me today as long as this is my anthem.

Mother's Day

My Mother's Day was spent exactly the way I wanted it; with our family. We started off the day with brunch with my side of the family and ended up the day with Josh's family. Tomorrow my boo is taking me to dinner at the Ranch to celebrate just me. Lucky lucky.

So thank you Charlotte Lillian for allowing me to be a Mother to you. It is hands down the most glorious thing I have ever experienced.

Ummmm... More waffles please

Brunch at the club

Party On

Last night my parents had a party and it had all the key ingredients to a great party: great company, great music, and great food. It really was too much fun. Although we were a bit sad the rain but a damper on the "outdoor" festivities nobody let that stop them from having a good time. I am already pushing for this to be annual Vaughn party.

Big Truck Taco

The Band had to hide out under the patio to stay dry

This would be the great company I was talking about
After the party ended a group of us crazy kids went to Groovy's. We danced our hearts out to Whitney all night.

Thank you to Josh's AMAZING family for watching the bit all night so this Momma could get a night off. It is safe to say I took full advantage.
