Spring has Sprung

I followed the lead of a friend and we took Charlotte to the park today to take some spring pictures. We got a few decent pictures out of almost 100. It is impossible to get a picture with a toddler and this is exactly why we haven't paid for professional pictures again. Someday I suppose....

Happy Easter!!!

I hate bullies. It is that simple. I hate them. Yes, I can use that word. They are just down right mean. I get overwhelmed and flustered when thinking about how big our bullying problem is becoming in America. Why is this? Lack of parenting I suppose.

Everyone was bullied at some point in their life and if they say they weren't they are lying so that is why this is every ones problem. This reminds me of high school. Oh high school girls.... aren't they sweet??? A bunch of us girls were at my friends Maggie's house having a great night. We were a bit dorky and didn't do much of the party scene so we usually just hung out at each other's house. Well little did we know as we were enjoying our dorky night my car was getting shoe polished by let's just say a girl a year younger with the same name as me with red hair. Mmmmmmm.... Back to the point. We all went outside to leave and we saw the damage. Only to my car mind you. She had written things like; "Ugly teeth" "Fat Ass" "Bad Hair" and I forget what else. Does it matter? Still to this day I have no idea why. It was awful. My friends hurt for me as bad as I did. Why are people so mean?

As a parent now it is totally different. Forget me and my stupid high school drama. I am already sick about Charlotte facing bullies herself. What will I do? What if the school does nothing? What if Charlotte is the chubby, pale, curly hair, dorky girl that has no friends and everyone is mean to her?  The panic has already set in. Most importantly, I pray nightly that Charlotte has courage: Courage to be okay with being different, courage to stop a bullying being mean to her or anyone else, and courage to be friends with anyone regardless if it is "cool".

There is a movie that is coming out that I can't stress strong enough that I think ALL middle school and high school students should be required to see. Although I only worked at a middle school for less than 2 years it was more than enough to see bullying is an enormous problem.

Videos Lately

Here are some cute videos of the baby bit lately doing what she does best; keeping us laughing!

We recently got Charlotte a picnic table and she loves every oppurtunity to go outside and play at the table. She also has a fake laugh that she does about 5,000 times a day. I guess she is used to hearing laughter around her. This was Saturday when she was spending the afternoon with Dad.

This was also Saturday with Dad. She was taking food out of her picnic basket and feeding one of her best friends. What a good guy that Harold is.

Charlotte has recently gotten obsessed with DVD's and a weird doll called Eebee Baby. It is something my parents found in Miami before Charlotte was born. If you have a child near Charlotte's age you might look into. It captures her attention for a long time and that is hard to do these days. This video is her rocking out to the DVD during an afternoon snicky snack.

Waffle Champion

Ever since I heard about the food truck, Waffle Champion, the fat kid inside me was giddy with excitment. After several failed attempts we tracked them down this Sunday at a fundraiser by VZD's.

Charlotte thought her new boat shoes were perfect for the occasion because if waffle debris got on them she could just wipe them off the patent leather. Good call, Charlie.

Charlotte is ready: Snacks, shades, pacifier, and a comfy ride.

As we waited for our waffles Josh and I also had big truck tacos, don't judge, it is Sunday Funday. Charlotte had a peanut butter sandwich, odd.

Off to more important things, THE DREAM MAKER:

Josh and I both got dessert waffles.

Mine: Whipped cream, carmel, coco puffs, pretzels, and nutella. Yes, freaking nutella!
Josh's: Whipped cream, oreo's, peanut butter, and not sure what else.

My brother got a sandwich waffle with ham, tomatoes, fried egg, and cream cheese:

To say we loved it is a huge understatement. I describe mine as, "better than a party in my mouth, it was a rave with glow sticks." You follow "Waffle Champion" on facebook and they post where they are almost daily.

Charlotte gives it two nutella thumbs up!

Music Monday

It is old news that Adele has the most amazing voice out there. Her CD, 21, is one of the very few albums I can listen to from start to finish. I would go just about anywhere to see her live. I cannot tell you my favorite song of hers because I don't have one but I do love this song.  I hope you do too!

You Can't Have it All

One of the biggest lessons I have learned being a new Mom is that you cannot have it all. For example, Charlotte is an amazing sleeper but sucks at eating. Charlotte sleeps 13-14 hours a night, never makes a peep in the night, and begins her morning routine around 8:30-9am daily. Who is this lucky? Not many Moms. But I have recently come to find out when your kid is awesome in one category they make you pay in another.

Charlotte doesn't eat. At all. Let me say this before I go too far, she isn't starving. She is and has always been in the top 85% in weight but it isn't healthy not to eat. I cannot remember the last time the child has had a serving of fruits or vegetables. Judge away because I have tried like crazy. Her doctor keeps saying, "She will eat when she is hungry." BULL. The doctor also said to give her a daily vitamin but what do you know, she spits them out too. We have tried chicken, cheese, eggs, all fruits, all veggies, raisins, mac n' cheese, pancakes, grilled cheese, pizza, seriously everything. The only thing she eats is any gerber snacks, peanut butter sandwiches, and waffles.

Last night I made her token peanut butter sandwich, bananas, oranges, and chicken and the snot didn't touch any of it. Do you know how frustrating it is to make three meals a day and it go to waste every single time? I am at my wits end. So my solution??

Give her snacks under the kitchen table so Josh and I can finish eating. For some reason she sometimes eats better in bizarre places. Weird kid.

And then the three of us drive to Braum's in our Pj's for ice cream (yes, she does eat ice cream but who doesn't)

Oh, yes... Mother of the year. If anyone has any tricks of the trade please help a girl out. To say this is just a phase is running thin because this has been going on for several months and getting worse.  I will say; I will take the no eating over no sleeping. Selfish but true.

Birchbox #3

And we are back!!! I received my birchbox in the mail today and liked almost everything inside. It was a great "spring training" kit.

Here are the items in March's box:

1. Nail Polish: Don't love the color but it will be fun on the paws for something different. It is nice because I would never buy that color so it pushes me out of my comfort zone. I need that push.

2. Perfume: Harvery Prince in Ageless. Smells pretty.

3. Hair Powder:  I am excited for this. I have been wanting to try dry shampoo for a bit now but didn't want to invest in a big bottle until I knew I liked it. It says to revive flat locks sprinkle the organic dry shampoo on your roots and that is it. It will be nice on the days I don't have time to wash my hair and but need a pick me up.

4. Beauty Balm: Two in One cleanser and moisturizer. I will give it a try

5. Tea: I am a tea lover so I am anxious for these samples. It says they taste good and make your skin more radiant. A gimmick? I am sure but hell it worked on me.

6. Sunscreen Swipe: I think this might be great for the summer. Put a couple of these portable wipes in your purse/baby bag and you are always prepared. They said they are sensitive enough for newborns as well. Great idea!!! I see myself purchasing these.

Since I am back on the birchbox wagon I will update you next month.

Music Monday

I don't like country music but I like Carrie Underwood. It might be the fact she is from Oklahoma or she looks like a living barbie but regardless she gets my boots tappin'.  My Mom and I went to her concert when she came to OKC and it was a hoot and a half. Come to think of it Charlotte came too, in my tummy.

One of my favorite songs she sings is called "Temporary Home". These are my favorite lyrics of the song because it reminds me when we lost our Papa:

Old man, hospital bed
The room is filled with people he loves
And he whispers "Don't cry for me, I'll see you all someday"
He looks up and says "I can see God's face"

Sesame Street Live

Today was THE day. It has been the day Charlotte has been dreaming about since she first saw that furry red man on the television. The White House went to Sesame Street Live and it did not disappoint.

We bought tickets to the meet and greet beforehand and that backfired. Charlotte had a damn near heart attack every time a furry friend walked past her but at least we got a few pictures.

Off to our seats we go so Charlotte could eat dinner before the big show. I knew we had good seats but I didn't know they were this good. I wasn't sure if this was good news for Charlie or bad news...

The first five minutes of the show were touch and go. She was holding Josh's shirt so tight and her eyes were wide open. She had NO clue what was happening.

Then before you know it Charlotte was having the time of her life. She was dancing, clapping, waving, and even singing. She wouldn't take her eyes of the stage if her life depended on it. I am certain this was the best day of her life.

Ernie saying hi

Charlotte's favorite song "Elmo's World"

As soon as Charlotte saw the Elmo balloons she started pointing and grunting so Dad gave in and got her one. He is so easy. I wish I just had to point and grunt at my wants.

Charlotte was asleep before we left the parking garage. Mission accomplished!

Music Monday

I am probably the only who likes this song and I am okay with that. It is from the artist Matisyahu. Matisyahu is known for blending traditional jewish themes with rock and reggae. I think this song, "One Day" is a refreshing way to start off our week.

You Be The Judge

When people ask me if Charlotte takes after her Mom or Dad I don't know what to say because I don't think she looks like either one of us. Am I missing something?

Her Dad:

Her Momma:

And the little Orphan Annie:

We Need More Wanda's

Music Monday

On this rainy Monday I think we need a song to give us a little pep in our step and this song will do just that. It is one of my favorite bands called Ghostland Observatory. If you ever have the opportunity to go see them live I highly suggest it.

Here is Ghostland Observatory singing "Sad Sad City".

Kony 2012: Invisible Children

You have to be living under a rock if you haven't heard or seen the inspiring video from the organization Invisible Children regarding the evil Joseph Kony. If you haven't or do not know who Kony is he is arguably the most evil man living. Kony has abducted an estimated 66,000 CHILDREN and forced them into fighting for his army and the young girls into sex slavery in Uganda. The reason why United States has never step in before is because it has nothing in it for us. Sick in so many ways.

My point of this post is before you donate your money to Invisible Children please research the organization first. After you do and you still feel led then more power to you. After my research and questioning some friends this is what I found out that I thought I would share:

1. Only 31% on the donations goes to the aid in Uganda
2. Invisible Children does support the Uganda government. The Uganda government is also known for war crimes, child slavery, child soldiers themselves, and sex slaves.

Are you supporting the lesser of two evils? Maybe? Should you be aware of the cause and do nothing at all? No way! I am sure there is an organization that is out there to help the Uganda people where close to if not all 100% of your money goes to directly to the cause and not to a great ad campaign. I am not trying to be negative. My last several years as a working gal was a fundraiser for a nonprofit so I know how important raising money is but knowledge is key.

Here is also a link to an article and video with the Invisible Children's CEO being interviewed about some of these concerns:

1 Year Check Up

Charlotte got the thumbs up from the doctor. She is right on track with her development and still one growing girl. I think our doctor put it as, "she is one big girl." I spoke to the doctor about her fits and got some helpful tips as well.

Weight: 24 lbs, 85% percentile
Height: 30.5 inches, 90% percentile
Head: Big, 90% percentile

Diagnosis: Baby Brat

Josh got home from his boys trip last night and just couldn't accept that his little girl had turned on him. Josh was convinced something must be wrong. There is no way our lazy baby all of sudden has the energy to throw all of these temper tantrums. So our family of three loaded up and headed to the after hours clinic, again. After our two hour stay we received word that Charlotte was just fine. Bitter sweet news really. You don't want her to be sick but you kinda what there to be a reason why she is acting like a monster. Charlotte has her 1 year appointment tomorrow at her regular pediatrician so the first thing on the list to address is her testy 'tude.

Thank You Daisy Duke

I never thought I would thank Jessica Simpson but there is a first for everything I suppose. I owe a big thank you to the dumb but pretty blonde for showing America what pregnancy really looks like. I personally think she looks great
