Gymnastics: Week 2

Today was more successful than last week at the gym. She wasn't as timid and knew more of what to expect. It seems to be working out great.

We were shocked she did this:

Lastly, she ended her morning with a leap of faith:

I love how she is waving before she jumps

Dad's Night

Josh watch Charlotte this evening so I could go to dinner with an old friend. Apparently Charlotte wanted to impress Dad with her stellar dance moves.

Unpluggits

This morning I met our twin friends at Unpluggits in Edmond. After our dynamo gym disaster I was a bit hesitant for anymore indoor play activities but this was great. I highly recommend you taking your kiddos there. We have already planned to go back next week.

Charlotte is going to host her weekly club meetings in the tree house:

You go down the slide for initiation:

AND... the secret club gesture is this (handshakes are so old school):

Okay great, now that everyone is a member let's play!!!

Off to write the club rules:

Poor Burke isn't a member yet:

Random and Cheap Kiddo Finds

Recently, I have found a few items for Charlotte that I really like. I think it is always good for Moms to share new discoveries.  The best part of these is they are cheap.

1. Aqueduck Faucet Extender:

This works great in our bathroom. It makes it possible for Charlotte to stand on her step stool and reach the water to brush her teeth or wash her hands.

2. Elephant Ears:

This is the best neck rest I have found. It is going to be Charlotte's best friend on long car rides so her neck isn't all of the place when she sleeps.  She will usually wake up when her head falls forward and this prevents that. It looks like it is great for all ages if you look at their website.

3. Bubbly Tub Colors:

This is a cheap way to make fun in the tub.

4. Hyland's Baby Tiny Cold Tablets:

Charlotte got a nasty cold this weekend and when I was at Whole Foods I found these gems. I read reviews online and every one of them was extremely positive so I started giving them to her Monday. It has dramatically improved her cold. Although it isn't gone it is much better and the nonstop green mucus is now a light clear mucus. I will say they are pain to give because for Charlotte's age you give them 3 tables every 15 minutes and repeat hourly if needed.

New Workout Partner

At last I have found for a workout partner that wouldn't make fun of my inability to do physical activities or my extra poundage.

Dog Shaming

Harold an Chloe are no strangers to misbehaving. In my new attempt to punish them I submitted their pictures on the website Dog Shaming. Will it work? I highly doubt it.

Happy Birthday Pappou

Today we celebrated my Dad's birthday and spent the day together as a family, just the way it should be. We are so lucky to have a Dad like our Dad.

Here a just a few pictures of our family day:

First Day of Gymnastics

This morning Josh and I took the bit to her first day of gymnastics. It went well but not great. I think after a few weeks she will be the next flying squirrel, okay maybe not.  I lucked out with Josh getting off every other Friday so he could be our photographer.

Park Playdate

This morning we met our twin friends at the park. We are attempting to be outside as much as possible when the weather is so beautiful.

And a sonic slush to end the fun:

Chalk It Up

Chalk it up to another wonderful weekend at the lake. The weather couldn't have been more spectacular. It was so hard to leave yesterday and come back to reality.

Charlotte had a hard time recovering as well. This morning I had to wake her up at 9:45am to head to the park.

Music Monday

Here is a pretty little love song to start your week because I am feeling extra lovey since Mother's Day Out starts back up TOMORROW!

Dynamo Disaster

Today Charlotte had a field trip with her best girls to Dynamo Gym in Oklahoma City. We heard they had a great indoor playground for toddlers. I am hear to say it was awful! Pretty much it was 40 snotty nose brats with lazy parents running all over our little gals.

Here are several pictures from the crap show:

Thankful

One year ago today me, my Mom, and Charlotte stood in the rain for hours to block the Westboro Baptist Church from protesting a local soldier's funeral. 1LT Damon Leehan attended my high school, close in age, was married, and had two beautiful kids.  His life was very similar to my life.

It is scary easy to take life for granted. To just assume your life will never change. I attempt to take each  day as a gift from God but I will be the first to admit I usually fall short.  I am tied up with selfish wants, silly worries, and busy chasing our toddler around to slow down and appreciate life; my life.

A facebook post from Damon's wife hit me hard this evening. Here it is:

August 14th: This day will never be the same for me. It will always have a different meaning. My world turned upside down, my little family shattered, my heart ripped right out from my wide open chest. The memories will be burned into my mind for years to come. I will forever remember this day for as long as I am here on this earth.

It’s as if it was just yesterday… I was sitting on the couch, visiting with my family and playing with our new puppy. Mark went outside to unload a dryer from his truck. As I was starting to walk into the kitchen, he came running inside and whispered something into my sister’s ear. Katie turned to face the tv and her color turned as white as a sheet. It was as if she had seen a ghost. Mark then went running back to the front door. I said “What is it”? Katie wouldn’t say a word. Wouldn’t even look at me, just stared blankly into the tv. So, as curiosity grabbed ahold me tightly, I started to walk around so I could out the front door….

That’s when I saw them. Two officers, dressed to the nines, walking up to my front door. When they caught sight of me, they took their hats off and placed them over their hearts. While they were walking towards me, I just stood there, frozen still, and the only words I could mutter out of my mouth were NO. No, no, no, no, no, no. Repeatedly. That’s when they asked me to sit down, all while knowing that’s when they would say the words. The words that would change my life forever. “Mrs. Leehan, we have come to regretfully inform you that your husband, 1LT Damon Thomas Leehan, was conducting a mission in Laghman Province”…. and that’s when everything went blank. Until I heard them say those raw, all too real words, that sounded as if they were screaming them right into my ear. “He.has.been.killed”. A small sentence that meant so much and felt like a raw knife to hear. You see this kind of stuff in movies, not in your life. Not in MY life. But, it just happened. A big, fat dose, of crappy reality.

I wake up every single day, put a smile on my face and try to be strong, all while being broken to pieces on the inside. I do this because it’s the only choice I have. I was left here for a reason and Damon was taken for one. I may not ever know why. In all the hurt and heartache, I look back and see all of God’s blessings throughout. From August 14, 2011, to this very day. One year later. I see it in all the small things…our dog dying out of nowhere on the 10th (and bc of that, my family was at my house to see our new puppy the day I got that “knock at my door”)…the scripture verse Damon had read the day he died…the time on his watch in our deployment pics…Michael Spasic, a very close friend, being the one to receive the dignified transfer email…the list goes on and on. I’m very thankful for all of it. Knowing He’s still here is what keeps me going, even though I wish I could go to sleep and wake up on August 26th. Although every day after this day will also be tough, today is the most painful. Instead of putting on a brave face, I am going to allow myself to just.be.sad.

Sometimes a loud sigh speaks significantly louder than any words that can ever be spoken.

So tonight I will go to bed thanking God for my life and pray for Damon's beautiful family.

1st LT Damon Leehan and family

Music Monday

One of my very favorite songs in the whole wide world is by one of my favorite groups in the whole wide world. I was beyond lucky to see them in concert twice and even luckier to have them open up with this song.

Artist: U2
Song: "City of Blinding Lights"

18 Months

Today Charlotte had her 18 month appointment and shots. Boy, I dread these days so much. Charlotte literally cries, or screams, from the moment we walk into the office until we are in the elevators leaving.  But I am so beyond thankful that we have such a healthy girl so I do my best not to complain.

Today's stats on the bit:

Weight: 27 lbs and 75% percentile
Height: 33 inches and 75% percentile
Head: Super big, 90% percentile

More Updates:

-Walking and running like crazy
- Dancing is still her favorite activity by far
- Says 18-20 words
- And our current favorite is her big fake laugh as she covers her mouth

To celebrate Charlotte we took her to the park this evening:

Do not let these pictures fool you. Although she looks darling and happy in the pictures she threw a 20 minute tantrum when we left the park. She was crying and screaming so loud I bet our neighbors thought we were abusing her. We are head deep in the tantrum stage and it was the first issue we talked to  the doctor about today. Her advice, "hang in there." Ummmm do we have any other options?

Severe Cabin Fever

These two girls have cabin fever in the worst way. This morning was a playdate but we were sick of looking at each other come the afternoon. When it is this hot combined with no Mother's Day Out for several weeks it is nearly impossible to keep coming up with ideas what to do.

So this afternoon we headed for Target to find new toys.

Here is the loot:

Charlotte is clearly obsessed with music so I thought this drum filled with musical instruments was a win win:

I also got the Aqua Doodle because Charlotte loved it at her friends house:

Tracing Chloe's feet, naturally

Lastly, there was a fashion showdown between Chloe and Charlotte:
